Dandruff is a very common hair problem that nearly all people experience at one point of time in their lives.
During the winter seasons your skin as well as your scalp turns dry. If you notice more than snowflakes on your shoulders this winter, you may be suffering from dandruff. The dead cells from the scalp take a white powdery form and begin falling. Dandruff is not a serious health condition, but sufferers will pull out all the stops to prevent that particular kind of snow from falling.
Some of the symptoms of dandruff are itchy scalp and visible white flakes of dry dead skin. People mostly suffer from dandruff during the winter months due to cold dry air outside, as well as the warm dry air indoors, which is caused by many heating systems.
Dandruff affects the quality of your hair, and also causes social embarrassment. So, you have to keep your scalp moisturized to get rid of dandruff. Preventing winter dandruff is a challenge that you can win with a proper haircare routine.
Regular washing of hair
Wash your hair everyday – with shampoo used on alternate days when you have serious dandruff problem, and then twice a week after it is under control. Choose a good anti-dandruff shampoo, apply it on your scalp and let it stay for 5 minutes before rinsing off. Make sure all of the shampoo and conditioner you applied is washed away.
Apply a quarter-sized amount of specially formulated dandruff shampoo to your palm. Work the shampoo through your hair, focusing on the scalp area. Let the shampoo sit for five minutes to properly work, and then rinse it out. Wash your hair once per day with the dandruff shampoo, which is formulated to eradicate the malassezia fungus.
If you want to prevent dandruff in winter, you can start with using a good conditioner that moisturizes your hair and prevents it from getting dry. Your scalp must always be kept hydrated in order to prevent dandruff. If the scalp gets dry, there is the chance of you getting dandruff. If you prefer to use herbal conditioners, test if you are allergic to the product you use by taking a small quantity of it and applying it on a small area.
When you use shampoo and conditioners on your scalp, you must massage your scalp with them gently. Never rub them harshly on the scalp as it may remove the moisture from your scalp and make your scalp dry and flaky. Always use mild shampoos instead of strong shampoos. You may also use homemade shampoos, which do not contain any chemicals and therefore do not make your scalp dry.
Avoid Hair Stylers
Using hair styling products is now common and it styles your hair and makes it look beautiful. But it contains lots of chemicals, which may affect your scalp. Try to minimize the use of such products in winter as your scalp is already dry and prone to get easily attacked by the chemicals present in these products. This may cause itchiness to the scalp and make it dry, and lead to the formation of dandruff.
